When I sat down to write this blog I was unusually lacking in inspiration, and then I thought perhaps this is something we could all need a bit of help with sometimes. You are planning your wedding, and you want it to be fab, but where to go for your inspiration?
Wedding Fayres
As mentioned in last week’s blog, wedding fayres can be a great source of inspiration and also offer the chance to talk face to face with wedding suppliers. There are often fashion shows with hair and makeup demonstrations and sample table layouts with all the trimmings. They are a good guide to what the wedding industry thinks will be in fashion for the upcoming wedding season.
Bridal Magazines
The traditional approach would be to refer to the Bridal magazines. Large glossies with lots of pictures, and a bit of a guilty pleasure, these tend to have all of the mainstream suppliers represented and increasingly feature photos of real weddings. My current favourite is the handbag sized ‘Real Weddings’ magazine, but all are good and offer a strong start in planning your wedding.
Wedding Blogs
There are lots of great quality wedding blogs and new ones are emerging all the time. The good thing about the internet is that it is infinitely searchable so if you wanted a 1940s theme wedding for instance, google and hey presto you can see lots of image rich wedding blog entries.
If you have a strong idea or theme in mind there is almost certainly material out there to help. In the course of writing this blog I came across a dedicated 1950s style wedding blogand also moodboards for an Alice in Wonderland Wedding, Victorian Style Weddings, you name it and there really is something for everyone.
UK wedding blog Love My Dress includes beautiful Bridal Inspiration Boards as well as featuring real weddings and beautiful wedding supplies. Just checking in today there was a gorgeous, real life, Beatrix Potter inspired wedding, complete with bunny ears for the children.
Rock nRoll Bride is another UK blog which is a great resource for those who really want to do something different for a truly individual wedding.
North East Brides is a local UK wedding blog featuring real life weddings, with the advantage that suppliers listed will be local to this area. (They were also kind enough to blog my horsey post wedding shoot!)
All three blogs have entries on facebook, with the advantage that they will notify you of the latest blog updates in your news feed.
This list is by no means exhaustive, get out there and explore what is available.
I just wish half of this was around when I was planning my own wedding!
Other inspiration
You don’t have to take inspiration directly from the wedding industry or even real life weddings.
My own wedding colour scheme was dictated by a pair of vintage earrings that were the first jewellery gift from my husband. A piece of jewellery, a favourite colour, a favourite flower can all be a good starting point. I recently heard of someone planning a peacock styled wedding (all my favourite colours in one – I must see the photos!).
