This week I got talking to other wedding professionals about wedding disco music, and specifically some of the most ill judged DJ music choices.

Here are some of my ‘favourites’. Apologies if I am showing my age in this post, it can’t be helped!
1) I don’t mean to cause offence, but there is one I’ve heard at just about every wedding I have been to:
“Young Heart, Run Free” – Candi Staton
Contains the lyric “never get hung up … like my man and me”. It usually follows the romantic floor filler “You to me are Everything”, at least in my experience!
Surely this anti commitment anthem isn’t right? Or maybe it is intended for the single female wedding guests?
2 ) Similarly, I am not sure the classic break-up song “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor should really have a place.
3) “Grounds for Divorce” – Elbow – hopefully self explanatory! (Add to this the ancient country music favourite D-I-V-O-R-C-E)
4) Thanks to Duncan at Danby Castle for volunteering “Every Day I Love You Less and Less” by the Kaiser Chiefs.
5) Tainted Love – Soft Cell.
It is probably best to give you DJ a bit of guidance, or not to listen to the lyrics too closely!
I would love to add to my collection of inappropriate wedding music, so if you have experienced any clangers please get in touch or add your comments here!

I worked behind the bar at a wedding venue for many years and the ‘house’ DJ would not be told the ‘Band of gold’ was not a clever choice. He played it at every wedding.
“Since you’ve been gone all that’s left is a band of gold,
All that’s left of the dreams I hold…”
We are just starting the process of planning our wedding now and always looking for ideas. Thanks for the post.
