If you have been following this blog for a while, you will know I have a real soft spot for The Alnwick Garden. I was lucky to find time to get up there last week whilst the Ornamental Cherry Trees were still in flower. This year I persuaded two other wedding photographers, Katie Byram and Natalie Pluck to join me too.
The spring flowers in the ornamental garden were looking pretty good…but we had really gone along to see the Cherry tree walk.
Thanks to Katie Byram for taking a photo of me on my camera to prove I was there! The under-planting was not as impressive as it was a few years ago, but that could just be a timing issue as I know by experience, the cherries bloom exactly when they feel like it. There were some lovely pink tulips and definitely some aliums yet to come.
I am also dying to see what results Natalie Pluck got from her film Lomo spinner (which does a 360 degree image on traditional 35mm film).
As well as the flowering cherries, I was also taken by what I think are new sculptures, see below.
We didn’t have time to visit the Poison Garden, but given how many times I have been in there I could probably recite the script! Having said that, it is highly entertaining if you haven’t been in ten times already.
The garden is well worth a visit and if you buy an annual pass you can check back at different times of the year to see how it is looking. I will be aiming for July next I think, to see the rose garden in full swing.
