Last week I found myself in Newcastle on Wednesday morning, so it was only a hop skip and a jump (relatively) to visit the Alnwick Garden. It really is one of my favourite places. It was unbelievably busy when I arrived, I ended up in the overflow, overflow car park. And needless to say when I went back (10 minutes before closing) it was the only car for miles!
Unfortunately, I could not go roaming in the castle grounds due to filming of a major costume drama (Downton Abbey do you think?). Still there was plenty to keep me occupied.
The ornamental garden was in peak condition with clouds of stunning white Hydrangeas.
Although I did not go in this time (I suspect I know the script by now…), there was a real sense of anticipation from the crowds heading into the poison garden.
I also just about managed to stay dry in the splash-tastic Serpent Garden
Look out for the fabulous new sculptures by David Watkinson which are dotted around the garden. They are set to remain until at least the end of the year. As a lot are kinetic sculptures, you really have to see them “in the flesh” to see how they move to get the full effect.
I can’t believe I also managed to accidentally photo-bomb another wedding photographer’s family day out (Selena from Image Newcastle), what are the odds?
And before you ask, yes a number of wedding photographers are actually on speaking terms!
I have an annual pass for the gardens now, so keep an eye out for me when you visit.
