I was going to write about taking your camera for a walk, but then this happened…
My plan this week was to urge all new camera owners to use the spring weather to get out and start using their cameras (if you got a camera for Christmas and it is languishing in a cupboard, then I am talking to you…) Then this happened, and I just had to share.
Overnight Saltburn Pier railing was covered with knitted athletes from all areas of olympic sport, including synchronised swimmers, cyclists, shooting and football.
There have been outbreaks of Guerilla Knitting, or Yarn Bombing in Saltburn before, including a knitted teddy bear’s picnic on the benches near the front and scarves appearing on lamposts but the sheer scale of the latest work is staggering. If you look carefully, the syncronised swimmers even have little nose pegs!
Fortunately I had time on Monday to get down there and take some photographs, although it was a bit windy so some of the more upright figures got away from me a bit! If you get the chance, do go along and have a look. I don’t think any number of photographs would put across how much work has gone into it.
I very much like the idea of people beavering away annonymously to make us smile. Everyone I spoke to on the day was suitably impressed, and speculation was high over whether it was an individual or a team effort. Although it would be great to give credit where it is due, part of me would like those responsible to remain annonymous.
Thank you whoever you are. I am glad I live somewhere where this could happen!
